What is Shortbread?

Shortbreadstories.com is a FREE website dedicated to bringing you the best short stories from around the world in text and audio format. We welcome all short story authors and are particularly interested in encouraging new writers of all ages. If you have a short story please submit it to us.

Why a website for short stories?

Today there is little opportunity for the publication of short stories. There are fewer short story magazines and anthologies being produced and yet this is a genre which appeals to an increasing number of writers both new and established. By using our website, authors are able to present their stories to a global audience.

Why should I sign up to Shortbread stories.com?

Firstly signing up to Shortbreadstories.com is FREE. Secondly you can read, listen and download as many stories as you want for NO CHARGE. Thirdly by using Shortbread you are supporting existing authors from around the world, and encouraging new talent.

Is there an age limit?

No there isn’t. Shortbread has been designed to appeal to all age groups, from 12 to 112! We are keen to encourage literacy around the world, and we welcome submissions from children.

How do I sign up?

Signing up couldn’t be easier. Simply click on the word Join which appears in the box on the on the right hand side of our pages and fill in your details. All you need is an email address and a password.

How do I submit a short story?

If you are a new user you need to sign up to a free account. Membership is instant and you will be able to submit work by clicking on the contribute your work link. Before submitting a short story, please complete the form making sure you tick the box to agree to our terms and conditions.

What type of stories are you looking for?

We are particularly interested in short stories from between 2,000 words to 4,500 and can be on any topic or genre.

I can’t remember my password. How can I sign in?

Click on the forgotten password link underneath log in. Then fill in your email address and new password.

What are Tags?

Tags are keywords which describe the story, and allow you to search in order to find the type of story you want!

What formats can I download in?

All stories can be downloaded in PDF files for reading, and our selection of audio stories is available to be downloaded in mp3.

What does ‘download’ mean?

This means to take a file from our site and save it onto your computer, ipod, mp3 player or phone, so you can read it or listen to it at your leisure.
